    Book Decription:

The world’s leading expert on habit formation shows how you can have a happier, healthier life: by starting small.

When it comes to change, tiny is mighty. Start with two pushups a day, not a two-hour workout; or five deep breaths each morning rather than an hour of meditation. In Tiny Habits, B.J. Fogg brings his experience coaching more than 40,000 people to help you lose weight, de-stress, sleep better, or achieve any goal of your choice. You just need Fogg’s behavior formula: make it easy, make it fit your life, and make it rewarding. Whenever you get in your car, take one yoga breath. Smile. Whenever you get in bed, turn off your phone. Give yourself a high five.

Change can be easy—once it starts, it grows. Let B.J. Fogg show you exactly how.

Speed: Facing Our Addiction to Fast and Faster–And Overcoming OurFear of Slowing Down

Cover of Speed: Facing Our Addiction to Fast and Faster–And Overcoming OurFear of Slowing Downbook

    Book Decription:

From the need to be constantly connected and the changing definition of “work hours,” to unrealistic expectations of instant gratification, our bodies and brains are being harmed by habits that, as with any kind of addiction, promise short-term satisfaction while doing long-term damage.

As a psychologist and addiction expert who practices in Silicon Valley, Stephanie Brown sees firsthand the impact of ever-faster technology and the culture it has spawned. She knows it’s affecting us mentally, physically, and spiritually. In this groundbreaking book, she explores how our beliefs and behaviors are being shaped by the seemingly limitless new world we’ve entered in recent years—and why faster doesn’t always equal better. Dr. Brown offers a step-by-step plan for breaking out of the speed trap. With practical guidelines, she shows us how to ease up on the gas pedal and reconnect with ourselves, learning to accept—and value—our limitations as human beings, reduce our stress levels, and free ourselves from our counterproductive obsession with speed.

Rationally Speaking Podcast with Julia Galef

    Rationally Speaking Podcast photo

    Podcast Decription:

In podcast-years, Rationally Speaking is ancient. The show was born in 2010, as a joint project co-hosted by myself and professor of philosophy Massimo Pigliucci. We were sponsored by the New York City Skeptics and produced by Benny Pollak in his studio in Greenwich Village.

In 2015, Massimo left the podcast to focus on other projects, and I’ve been the solo host ever since. I record and produce all the episodes myself, but receive invaluable help from my audio consultant Brent Silk, and my web consultant Jonathan Nelson. The Rationally Speaking theme music is by the excellent independent band Miracles of Modern Science.

When I’m not podcasting, I spend my time writing, speaking and sometimes consulting. You can learn more at my personal site, or pick up a copy of my book, The Scout Mindset (2021).

    Book Decription:

In The Scout Mindset, Galef shows that what makes scouts better at getting things right isn’t that they’re smarter or more knowledgeable than everyone else. It’s a handful of emotional skills, habits, and ways of looking at the world–which anyone can learn. With fascinating examples ranging from how to survive being stranded in the middle of the ocean, to how Jeff Bezos avoids overconfidence, to how superforecasters outperform CIA operatives, to Reddit threads and modern partisan politics, Galef explores why our brains deceive us and what we can do to change the way we think.
